Overall objectives

Carry out feasibility studies to determine the economic viability to operate a rock-oyster farm for commercial purposes

Project Location

The project will be implemented on the following selected sites on the island of Mahé where rock oyster have been found; Port Glaud, Anse Boileau, Anse à La Mouche, Glacis and Silhouette Island. Most of these sites have already been recommended by the 1972 Cox Report and pre-designated by the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) as per the official aquaculture development zones.

Expected results

The expected results of the project will be to turn rock-oyster farming as an accepted activity within the community in line with current aquaculture regulations and to include these native species into a new local edible product for the local market giving it a commercial added value to an otherwise under-utilized natural resource.
